Quest & Rest: The Easiest Way to Start Playing Dungeons & Dragons in Mid-Michigan

"I've always wanted to try Dungeons & Dragons... but I have no idea where to start."

If that sounds familiar, you're exactly who Quest & Rest was made for.

Every week, people walk into Monkey Llama Games convinced they're "not the D&D type." They don't know the rules. They don't own dice. They've never created a character. Some aren't even sure what Dungeons & Dragons actually is—they've just heard it's fun.

Ninety minutes later, they're laughing with strangers who now feel like friends, celebrating impossible victories, and telling stories they'll be talking about long after the game is over.

That's the magic of Quest & Rest.

You Don't Need to Know Anything

Really.

You don't need to own books.

You don't need to bring dice.

You don't need to create a character.

You don't need to memorize rules.

You don't even need to know that the singular of dice is die.

We'll take care of all of it.

When you arrive, we'll introduce you to the group, help you find a seat at the table, hand you a character that's ready to play, and explain everything you need to know as you go. If you've ever worried that everyone else already knows what they're doing, don't. Helping new players discover tabletop roleplaying games is one of our favorite things.

No homework required.

It's About Stories, Not Rules

Movies let you watch the hero.

Video games let you control the hero.

Tabletop roleplaying games let you be the hero.

Maybe you're a brave knight defending a village.

Maybe you're a clever goblin trying to bluff your way past a dragon.

Maybe you're an absent-minded wizard who accidentally sets the tavern curtains on fire.

The story isn't written before you arrive. It happens because of the choices you make together.

Every table creates a story that has never existed before—and never will again.

The Rule of Cool

At Monkey Llama Games, we believe in something called the Rule of Cool.

If you have an exciting, creative, cinematic idea, we want to help make it happen.

Want to swing from a chandelier?

Try.

Want to tame the monster instead of fighting it?

Let's see what happens.

Want to solve the mystery without ever drawing your sword?

Fantastic.

Rules help us tell stories, but they never get in the way of having fun.

Collaborative Storytelling Means Everyone Gets a Chance to Shine

The best moments in roleplaying games don't belong to one player.

They belong to the table.

Maybe one player talks their way past the guards.

Another solves the puzzle everyone else missed.

Someone else lands the impossible shot that saves the day.

Every adventure becomes memorable because everyone contributes something unique.

Nobody has to compete for the spotlight.

We share it.

Do I Have to Do a Funny Voice?

Absolutely not.

If you want to speak exactly like yourself, that's perfect.

If you decide your dwarf sounds suspiciously Australian halfway through the adventure, that's perfect too.

Roleplaying isn't about acting.

It's about imagining.

Some players stay completely in character.

Some describe what their character does.

Some do a little of both.

There isn't a right way—only your way.

Every Adventure Fits Into Your Evening

Quest & Rest is designed to fit real life.

Each adventure is a self-contained 90-minute One Shot, so you can experience the beginning, middle, and end of a complete story in a single visit.

Sometimes we'll play Dungeons & Dragons.

Sometimes we'll explore a fast-paced One-Page RPG with delightfully simple rules and wonderfully ridiculous adventures.

No long-term commitment.

No pressure to come every week.

Just one unforgettable story at a time.

We offer sessions at 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM, making it easy to fit an adventure into your schedule.

You Might Not Leave an Expert...

...but you'll leave knowing what all the excitement is about.

You'll have rolled your first die.

Made your first impossible plan.

Celebrated your first incredible success—or laughed through your first spectacular failure.

Most importantly, you'll leave with a story that only your table could have created.

And chances are, you'll already be looking forward to the next one.

Find Your People

One of the hardest parts of starting a new hobby isn't learning the rules.

It's walking into a room where you don't know anyone.

That's why we make the introductions.

We help you find your table.

We make sure everyone has a chance to participate.

Before long, the people who were strangers ninety minutes ago are cheering for one another like they've been adventuring together for years.

Games have always been about bringing people together.

Everything else is just dice.
